Make Mee Studio

They’ll get stuck into sewing, crafting and designing projects to instill a sense of confidence and pride. These sessions are open to kids of all sewing abilities, from complete newbies to confident creators. Regardless of their ability, they’ll leave with new knowledge and progress on projects appropriate to their skill level. 

This is a great extracurricular activity that will give your child transferable life skills. They’ll learn to use a sewing machine and discover loads of other craft and design techniques including: appliqué, embroidery, free machining, dressmaking, pattern cutting, and much, much more! 

**What’ll they make**

Each child will tackle a project of their choosing, individually guided by one of our friendly and experienced teachers. We have a huge range of projects on offer so they can choose to make something they will love and cherish for years to come. 

They can also choose fabric and trims available in our studio. We have everything, from regular cotton and standard buttons, to plush faux fur and sequins – a dream for imaginative young makers!   

Some of our projects include: cuddlies, bags, t-shirts, skirts, trousers, cushions the list goes on…

**Who’s it for?**

These sessions are suitable for budding sewers of all abilities, for children in year 2 and above.  Please note, we have recently had to increase the age criteria so please email if you child is 6 but in year 1. 
They can be a great help for GSCE and A-level work, and can also go towards D of E skills.

This session can also serve as a taster to see if your child would like to sign up for our After School Club or Holiday Classes. 

Please note: we cannot offer childcare over lunch time.

My daughter went for a taster session having heard a couple of her friends rave about the classes. I hated sewing at school finding it such a slow process. We would spend a couple of terms making a bag. In her first and only session she was shown how to use a sewing machine and made a velvet snood! Amazing! My 11 years daughter and I had a fantastic time at this Saturday sewing session! We picked a project from the many pictures shown on the boards (covering a variety of difficulty grades), setting our heart on making matching pouches. We chose lovely fabric together, from a huge variety and of good quality. The atmosphere of the class was so calm, despite the young age of some of the participants, as everyone was so focused and gratified by the effort of making their own item. I really appreciated to read some facts around the positive impact that reusing fashion material has on the environment. Annie and Marcus were such delightful instructors, they paid regular attention to everyone in the class and came just at the right time between stages of the project, with an infinite patience for all my questions as a first timer (my daughter has attended holiday clubs before, so clearly more experienced than me)! We went home all proud of what we had achieved and with a great sense of bonding, which is priceless approaching teenage years… Thank you, having such an enjoyable and enriching experience was an absolute gift! I am so glad parents can take part too on Saturdays, so will be coming again with both my children next time :-)

Make either a pencil skirt or Aline skirt and learn many technices in this sewing course delivered in our studio in South London.

We’ll cover many different dressmaking techniques to create a finished and wearable item.

**Who’s it for?**

This course is for absolute beginners who have never used a sewing machine before or those who have basic knowledge but want some practical dressmaking guidance.

Through this sewing course, you’ll learn that there's never just one way to do things in dressmaking (and you don't always have to stick to the rules). We want to encourage you to find your own personal way.

**In this course, you’ll learn:**

- How to measure your body

- Pattern terminology

- Garment construction

- Basic dressmaking techniques: different seam finishes, zips and hems to create your ideal skirt.

We have patterns for sizes 6 - 26. If you fall outside of these size ranges please get in touch and we can make a pattern for you.

A really great course with excellent teacher. Very laid back, friendly atmosphere, everything explained step by step as you go along, taking time to make sure everyone follows. Went away feeling like I had really learnt how to use a sewing machine and was very proud of my skirt.

I really enjoyed Tracie and Jamie's beginners dressmaking course, they were both full of knowledge and were happy to adjust the patter of the skirt to include extra things like pockets and pleats!

I was able to take in a pair of trousers, alter the sleeves of a blouse and make a long cardigan into a cropped cardigan with elastic in the bottom to add shape. **Materials**

We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase or you can bring your own. You can bring your own machine if you want to practise on it or use ours.

I attended a sewing surgery last week to make a second pair of trousers. As I had already completed the trouser-making course, I was able to see how much I had progressed. I was able to make the second pair with much less assistance. The teachers were on hand at all times to help me, and their reassurance and praise gave me the confidence to work much more independently than the first time. I feel a real sense of achievement. 

One of the best things about the studio is it has an overlocking machine. This means I was able to make the hems on my trousers look professional, and vastly improves the quality of the garment. There is no difference in quality than something that has been bought in a shop, except I got to design it myself.

I had an amazing time at the sewing surgery. I wanted to take in and hem a skirt and don’t have that much experience. The teachers were so helpful and patient with me! My skirt looks great and I can now wear it again. I would definitely reccomend to a friend.

Tracey and Jamie are both excellent tutors. They have lots of different machines to use, including two overlockers. Nothing is too much trouble you even get home made cake! They even have an answer for the most difficult sewing fabrics! Definitely recommend going along with any sewing project you are stuck on.

I really enjoyed this class. My new year's resolution has been to get back into sewing, and I was looking for a class that would allow me to get stuck in! Make Mee was perfect for this - Jaime was a great teacher, reminding me of the various skills I had forgotten, while helping me to take up a pair of trousers at the same time!

Tracey and Jaime provided a very friendly, welcoming atmosphere in which to tackle the various sewing projects that everyone brought with them.  They are a fount of knowledge and did a great job of spending time with everyone even though we were all working on completely different things.  I have been to the sewing surgeries a number of times now and its always a friendly bunch - and not forgetting the cake!  Would recommend it to anyone who is keen to progress their sewing in a friendly and fun group.

I learnt to measure a simple pattern and pin it in place. Then I was taught to thread the sewing machine and use it. I am a total beginning with only a tiny bit of sewing experience from years ago and I had a great time. The venue and facilities were fab, tea and cake was great. My teacher was fun and attentive, couldn’t have asked for more.

Jaime and Tracey have helped me fulfil my lifelong dream of learning to sew. After confidence knocking nightmares from my school days and bad experiences on other courses i didn't think i would see the day but their friendly, down to earth and positive natures make you feel un-judged and like you can achieve anything. 
On top of my lack of confidence, i came with a time sensitive project and booked last minute and Jaime went out of her way to help me finish on time, and her varied skillset and expert knowledge means she can give advice on a range of projects.
I highly recommend make mee, especially if you are a bit anxious about starting because the atmosphere is very chilled and accepting.

You can take any project with you and get great advice if you want it or just use their lovely sewing machines and do your own thing.  A small group of no more than six people with either Tracy or Jamie there to help when you need it.  A good mix of skills so as a relative beginner I didn't feel out of place..and really nice to see what I could end up making with more practice.  A creative and chilled session!

Being in Tracey's class felt like the perfect two hour hideaway. Time went so quickly and I managed to mend all the holes in one garment using a sewing machine for the first time - with Tracey's help of course. 

All Covid-19 secure measures were put in place making it a safe environment and it was lovely having other class members there working on their own projects.

I'll definitely be back.

Very helpful advice, tips and sewing hints.  All machines and haberdashery items I needed were available and in good working order. Small group all working on personal projects - very friendly and encouraging of each other.

The teachers are experts on all aspects of sewing and dressmaking. They are extremely patient, with lots of tips on pinning, cutting, how to use the sewing machine and overlocker. I really enjoyed spending time in the studio and was really pleased with the progress I made on my project.
