This workshop is open to children aged 6+ and adults. We do ask if your child is aged 6 - 8 that you please accompany them, simply book 2 spaces as you can make a project each.  

Our personalised approach to teaching will ensure you learn something new while creating something extra special. Absolute beginners may get to grips with basic sewing skills. Seasoned sewers may try their hand at more challenging techniques.

Regardless of your ability, you will leave with something you’ll cherish for years to come while soaking up some extra holiday cheer!

We had a great morning at makemee sewing Christmas decorations! I took my 12 yr old and 6 yr old, complete beginners,  and they both learnt to use the sewing machines, cut and pin their cloth and came away with a wreath and tree that became gifts for Grandparents. It was a lovely way to spend time together and the makemee people were incredibly kind and patient. Both kids ( girl and boy) asked if they could come back and do more! These sessions are for people of all sewing abilities who need some guidance or a boost of confidence. You need some sewing experience but we’re also happy to give you a refresher if you’re a bit rusty.

**Materials**

We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase or you can bring your own. You can bring your own machine if you want to practise on it or use ours.

I attended a sewing surgery last week to make a second pair of trousers. As I had already completed the trouser-making course, I was able to see how much I had progressed. I was able to make the second pair with much less assistance. The teachers were on hand at all times to help me, and their reassurance and praise gave me the confidence to work much more independently than the first time. I feel a real sense of achievement. 

One of the best things about the studio is it has an overlocking machine. This means I was able to make the hems on my trousers look professional, and vastly improves the quality of the garment. There is no difference in quality than something that has been bought in a shop, except I got to design it myself.

I had an amazing time at the sewing surgery. I wanted to take in and hem a skirt and don’t have that much experience. The teachers were so helpful and patient with me! My skirt looks great and I can now wear it again. I would definitely reccomend to a friend.

Tracey and Jamie are both excellent tutors. They have lots of different machines to use, including two overlockers. Nothing is too much trouble you even get home made cake! They even have an answer for the most difficult sewing fabrics! Definitely recommend going along with any sewing project you are stuck on.

Fantastic extended session - the extra hour made a huge difference as I was starting a new project so there was lots of prep: deciding on placement of pattern pieces with a very bold print, then cutting it all out. 
I’d taken along several pattern options and some expensive dress fabric, so it needed to be right. The advice snd help I received was spot on: make a toile as a practice piece rather than risk a poorly fitting dress made with a pattern I’d not tried before. Although making a toile means it will take longer to make the dress I’d planned, I was able to buy some fantastic fabric on the day for a nominal amount and, of course, will end up with two incredible dresses eventually - and confidence in the skills I’ve learned along the way. 
The studio had absolutely everything I need and lots of space for cutting out, even though several others were also cutting out patterns there. The knowledge and advice plus the friendly tutors make learning to sew there a real joy!

Join us for relaxing evening learning how to darn. 

Maybe you have a holey sock, a favourite moth eaten jumper, torn jeans you want to save but don’t know how. This workshop will take you through the basics of woven darning. We will show you tips for visible and invisible mending. We’ll also spend time covering how to source and match the right yarns for your garment and equipment essentials. You can bring your holey item and get straight to it or we’ll have plenty of fabrics scraps you can practice on.

It’s also repair week! A great time to get into mending, if you’ve not tried it before. Did you know if the active life on an item of clothing is extended by 9 months it would reduce carbon waste and water footprints by around 20-30% each. Not only is it mending restorative for your garments, it a slow and mindful technique, it can be great for unwinding, relaxing and taking your mind off other things. The only thing to be wary of….  it can become seriously addictive; you'll be hunting for holey clothes to repair.

The really friendly sewing instructors also always have clever fixes and ways to save on fabrics or to make better use of those I've brought along.

It was just what I've been looking for! I was able to start using up my stash! The sewing assistants are really helpful. I'm so looking forward to the next session! 

The fact that I keep going back is proof of how much I enjoy attending. Its been a positive experience meeting people who love to sew, getting great support and advice and just having the chance to talk and share.

The person leading the sewcial is helpful and encouraging.
A variety of machines is available including an overlocker, iron and large iron board, lots of coloured thread and sewing accessories. 
People are friendly and make an effort to make it social by having small conversations while working on their individual projects.  I look forward to going again.

My only recommendation would be that the tables and some equipment could do with cleaning before the sessions start.

Helpful and creative, make mee helped me with ideas and execution of a design for a bag for my business.  They have so many nifty gadgets and an abundance of materials and knowledge! Huge recommend

I took the two week course on creating a trouser toile and thoroughly recommend it - it's a really friendly atmosphere, the studio is well stocked and Josh is a great teacher.

I am sp glad I found this! I love the atmosphere and Jaime and Josh are really welcoming and always help when I need some advice.

I love being able to go along to these classes, especially as its on my doorstep and I can walk within  10 minutes. It helps with my well-being and the feeling of isolation.
