They’ll get stuck into sewing, crafting and designing projects to instill a sense of confidence and pride. These sessions are open to kids of all sewing abilities, from complete newbies to confident creators. Regardless of their ability, they’ll leave with new knowledge and progress on projects appropriate to their skill level. 

This is a great extracurricular activity that will give your child transferable life skills. They’ll learn to use a sewing machine and discover loads of other craft and design techniques including: appliqué, embroidery, free machining, dressmaking, pattern cutting, and much, much more! 

**What they make**

Each child will tackle a project of their choosing, individually guided by one of our friendly and experienced teachers. We have a huge range of projects on offer so they can choose to make something they will love and cherish for years to come. 

They can also choose fabric and trims available in our studio. We have everything, from regular cotton and standard buttons, to plush faux fur and sequins – a dream for imaginative young makers!   

Some of our projects include: cuddlies, bags, t-shirts, skirts, trousers, cushions the list goes on…

**Who’s it for?**

These sessions are suitable for budding sewers of all abilities, from year 2 upwards. 
They can be a great help for GSCE and A-level work, and can also go towards D of E skills.

Please note: if you want to book a full day then book both am and pm sessions and bring a nut and seed free packed lunch.

Make Mee Studio

Make either a pencil skirt or Aline skirt and learn many technices in this sewing course delivered in our studio in South London.

We’ll cover many different dressmaking techniques to create a finished and wearable item.

**Who’s it for?**

This course is for absolute beginners who have never used a sewing machine before or those who have basic knowledge but want some practical dressmaking guidance.

Through this sewing course, you’ll learn that there's never just one way to do things in dressmaking (and you don't always have to stick to the rules). We want to encourage you to find your own personal way.

**In this course, you’ll learn:**

- How to measure your body

- Pattern terminology

- Garment construction

- Basic dressmaking techniques: different seam finishes, zips and hems to create your ideal skirt.

A really great course with excellent teacher. Very laid back, friendly atmosphere, everything explained step by step as you go along, taking time to make sure everyone follows. Went away feeling like I had really learnt how to use a sewing machine and was very proud of my skirt.

I really enjoyed Tracie and Jamie's beginners dressmaking course, they were both full of knowledge and were happy to adjust the patter of the skirt to include extra things like pockets and pleats!

**Materials**

We have a selection of fabrics and trims in the studio which you can purchase or you can bring your own. You can bring your own machine if you want to practise on it or use ours.

I attended a sewing surgery last week to make a second pair of trousers. As I had already completed the trouser-making course, I was able to see how much I had progressed. I was able to make the second pair with much less assistance. The teachers were on hand at all times to help me, and their reassurance and praise gave me the confidence to work much more independently than the first time. I feel a real sense of achievement. 

One of the best things about the studio is it has an overlocking machine. This means I was able to make the hems on my trousers look professional, and vastly improves the quality of the garment. There is no difference in quality than something that has been bought in a shop, except I got to design it myself.

I had an amazing time at the sewing surgery. I wanted to take in and hem a skirt and don’t have that much experience. The teachers were so helpful and patient with me! My skirt looks great and I can now wear it again. I would definitely reccomend to a friend.

Tracey and Jamie are both excellent tutors. They have lots of different machines to use, including two overlockers. Nothing is too much trouble you even get home made cake! They even have an answer for the most difficult sewing fabrics! Definitely recommend going along with any sewing project you are stuck on.

Fantastic extended session - the extra hour made a huge difference as I was starting a new project so there was lots of prep: deciding on placement of pattern pieces with a very bold print, then cutting it all out. 
I’d taken along several pattern options and some expensive dress fabric, so it needed to be right. The advice snd help I received was spot on: make a toile as a practice piece rather than risk a poorly fitting dress made with a pattern I’d not tried before. Although making a toile means it will take longer to make the dress I’d planned, I was able to buy some fantastic fabric on the day for a nominal amount and, of course, will end up with two incredible dresses eventually - and confidence in the skills I’ve learned along the way. 
The studio had absolutely everything I need and lots of space for cutting out, even though several others were also cutting out patterns there. The knowledge and advice plus the friendly tutors make learning to sew there a real joy!

Our books and references can only be used in-studio. If you’d like to use them for a longer period of time, we recommend booking a bundle of classes. 

Not a sewer? No problem! Bring along your knitting, crochet, weaving, macrame or other crafting project. Our expert sewing teachers may not be able to support you to the same extent but we’re sure you’ll love the extra space, new pals and the freedom to be messy!

You can either bring along everything you need and make use of the fact there's plenty of space to work, or borrow equipment from the Make Mee studio. The really friendly sewing instructors also always have clever fixes and ways to save on fabrics or to make better use of those I've brought along.

The class size meant that everybody got the help when they needed it. The studio is well stocked with everything you could possibly needed to create amazing clothes. So happy I did the course and will definitely be signing up for more.

These sessions are incredible value for money. £10 for access to the Make Mee studio equipment is already great, but the real bonus is the Make Mee teachers on hand if you have any questions and offer tips and tricks. Jaime is so helpful and really makes sewing fun (great for those who had the fun drummed out at school!) - I wouldn't be able to machine sew at all without her! Also a nice airy well ventilated space perfect for covid times, and the team wear masks so everyone feels safe to sew. It's also so nice to see other visitors' projects progress every week and learn from what other people are doing. Highly recommend, it's a miracle they aren't sold out every week!

I completed a tricky alteration that I had been putting off for years. The sewing teacher Josh, was extremely patient showing me how to do darts, and advising on how to get a good fit. Also the equipment was so much better than what I have at home. I was delighted to leave the session with a wearable dress. I would definitely recommend Make Mee Studio for anyone wanting to have a go at dress making.
